There are a variety of indications for surgical crown-lengthening. Nevertheless, this intervention is performed quite seldom, as it is associated with a lot of effort - for the practitioner - and often also with pain - for the patient - in the conventional way (scalpel, bone milling machine, electrotome).

 

Not only the influence of the red-white-aesthetics occasionally requires such interventions, but they are often indispensable as a preparation for other treatments.

 

Surgical crown-lengthening is indicated, among other things, in the case of clinical crowns that are too short and they do not have sufficient core height for anchoring dental crowns, or in the case of tooth defects which extend below the gingival margin (gum line) and tooth core preparation at gingival level is not possible; also worth mentioning are decay or wedge-shaped defects on the cervical area of the teeth, which extend below gum level and thus a cervical composite filling cannot be performed correctly.

Conventional crown lengthening is very (time) consuming, risky and bloody. Bleeding after surgical crown lengthening often prevents fastest possible further treatment.

A solution to these problems can be found by the correct use of the LASER, as they are performed without bleeding, one can start earlier with the restorative measures and ultimately offer a stable end-result.
