VENEERS

The most important part of your face is your smile. It is an essential factor of beauty and self-confidence. A beautiful smile means a beautiful mouth and of course beautiful teeth.

Aged teeth as well as filled and worn teeth regain their original stability through the application of veneers. Coloured stains such as from coffee, tea, nicotine and red wine do not adhere to the ceramic veneers.

Veneers are thin shells of medical-grade ceramic for aesthetic corrections and transformations of the smile (smile makeovers).

Is it chipped, stained or un-proportionally small tooth / teeth in an even row of teeth, gaps between teeth, slightly misaligned, teeth shortened by abrasion teeth, eroded enamel, exposed yellowish dentine or crooked front teeth that are the reason to prevent you from smiling?

Correcting such small or not-so-small blemishes is relatively uncomplicated

Individually manufactured veneers may straighten, lengthen and / or widen the teeth according to your wishes and / or give your teeth the desired colour that may have been impossible to achieve or maintain by bleaching.

Functional veneers are small ceramic tips that are bonded to the worn anterior teeth by means of adhesive technology in order to restore the natural function of the teeth. The functional correction of the anterior teeth and the canine improves the function of the entire masticatory system.

Palatal veneers are attached on the back of the maxillary anterior teeth, for enamel restoration, to protect and stabilise damaged teeth, as a result of acid damage (bulimia), severe tooth grinding (bruxism) or severe clenching.

360-degree veneers are the alternative to all-ceramic dental crowns by sacrificing less than 75% of hard tooth substance. This method is used in situations where high standards of health and aesthetics are required, and where extensive stabilisation of the tooth / teeth is required (e.g. attrition: caused by parafunctions such as teeth grinding / bruxism; erosion: caused by previous eating-disorders such as bulimia illness).

Table-tops are veneers on the occlusal surface of the posterior teeth that have contributed to the loss of stubstance as a result of severe tooth grinding (bruxism) or -pressing (clenching). The table-tops serve to restore stability and function in the posterior region.

Compared to dental crowns, they have the advantage that far less tooth substance has to be sacrificed during the preparation.

The main goal of all my treatments is the lowest possible removal of healthy hard tooth substance. With the application of all veneer options, 70-100% more preservation of the hard tooth structure can be guaranteed.

These cosmetic enhancements are made from advanced materials that closely resembles the appearance of natural dental enamel.

The ultra-thin veneers are “hand-made” and individually designed, for every mouth rather than “factory-made” creating everybody the same or similar smile design.

A very complex adhesive technique ensures an ideal and durable bond between tooth and ceramic: the veneers practically become a part of your tooth in terms of appearance and function.

Aesthetically perfect, everyday solutions are created that look and feel completely natural.

Requirements:

Indications:

  • Splinted, chipped or abraded teeth

  • Discoloured teeth

  • Visible composite fillings

  • Teeth of different sizes

  • Small gaps (diastema) between the front teeth

  • Slightly twisted teeth

Contraindications:

  • Seriously decayed teeth or teeth with multiple composite fillings (should better be treated with dental crown).

  • Enamel that is too thin and strong parafunctions (teeth grinding / bruxism) (acceptable durability cannot be guaranteed in these cases; wearing a night guard / Michigan splint is recommended).

  • Circumferential lesions at the transition to the gingiva or deep subgingival preparations.

  • Extreme misaligned teeth (teeth cannot be prepared without exposing large areas of dentin).

  • Strong discoloration, the tooth / teeth with dark grey colour (non-vital teeth) after root canal treatment (the aesthetic result often disappoint, since the dark colour of the tooth shimmers through the translucent ceramic shell; an internal bleaching may improve the initial situation).

  • High caries activity, poor oral hygiene and poor compliance.

Before the veneers are manufactured, an aesthetic analysis is carried out to show the position of your teeth in relation to your lips and face. The potential result is simulated on cast models with wax (“wax-up”) and if the anatomical circumstances allow, the dental laboratory can fabricate a splint by copying the wax-up and we can proceed to make a mock-up. With the mock-up, we are able to show the intended improvement in advance in my Zahnarztpraxis Uetikon am See.

Taking the best care of your dental restorations will help you preserve your new smile for years to come.

Highly abrasive toothpaste can scratch the surface of the veneers and dull its shine. Therefore, non-abrasive fluoride toothpastes are recommended.

Flossing is a key factor in removing debris and plaque from interdental spaces, as proper gum tissue health is important and helps prevent tooth decay.

Avoid biting and / or chewing hard objects such as pens, staples, metal, bottle caps etc.

If you grind your teeth (bruxism) and were fitted with a night guard (Michigan splint) to prevent damage to your teeth and restorations, PLEASE, wear it.
